Shaping the Future of MAISRC

Cover of strategic plan document

In 2024, MAISRC embarked on an effort to establish a new strategic plan for the center. One that would build on the successes of the MAISRC research community and define new goals and strategies that would pilot our mission into the next decade – developing and supporting the implementation of innovative solutions to AIS and building knowledge and capacity for AIS education and response.

The strategic planning process relied heavily on input from MAISRC’s multiple stakeholders including researchers, natural resource managers, policymakers, and community members, collected through surveys, workshops, and focus groups. Intentional and meaningful collaboration means that the new plan incorporates ideas and priorities that acknowledge the wide range of approaches and viewpoints on AIS and ensures that solutions that are developed by MAISRC are both innovative and practical.

The goals established in the 2025-2035 plan will guide the center's research, collaboration, and outreach efforts over the decade, allowing MAISRC to remain agile in addressing AIS challenges and continuing to build on its legacy as a leader in AIS research and response.
