
Lab to Lakes: MAISRC Regional Workshop
June 23 and 24, 2023
Join the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center and regional leaders in a two-day workshop about priority aquatic invasive species concerns for North Central Minnesota. Registration will open in April, 2023.
Friday (Day 1)
- Location: Cedar Lakes Casino Event Center (6268 Upper Cass Frontage Road NW, Cass Lake, MN 56633)
- Day 1 will feature presentations, QAs, and panels with MAISRC researchers, local managers, and community leaders on priority AIS concerns for North Central Minnesota: starry stonewort, spiny water flea, zebra mussels, rusty crayfish, hybrid cattails, AIS impacts to wild rice, and much more.
- A full catered lunch and light morning and afternoon refreshments will be provided to registrants.
- Opportunities for networking, community-building, and information-sharing.
Saturday (Day 2)
- Location: various sites in the Cass Lake area
- Day 2 will feature a variety of field-based activities to highlight local management efforts and provide hands-on AIS learning opportunities.
- Field and in-water demonstrations of a DASH (diver-assisted suction harvesting) system and drones used for invasive species mapping and surveillance
- Hands on training in sampling and identification of native and invasive aquatic plants, rusty crayfish trapping, and spiny water flea surveillance
