Swedish dishcloths

As part of MAISRC's spiny water flea research and the 2021 Stop Spiny campaign, MAISRC printed prevention messaging and graphics onto Swedish (or cellulose) dishcloths for handing out to boaters, anglers, and other lake users. Our researchers experimented with multiple fabrics and found that Swedish dishcloths are the most user-friendly and effective tool for wiping down fishing lines and gear, and soaking up residual water from boat compartments. These cloths function as both a cloth and a sponge and dry quickly, minimizing the risk of spiny water flea survival, and are advantageous to looped fiber cloths that can accumulate spiny water fleas. MAISRC received grant funds to distribute custom-printed Swedish dishcloths to high risk areas of the state as a part of the Stop Spiny campaign.
